What 2 Guys 5 Movies is All About
Hi, all! 2 Guys 5 Movies, a long-form film podcast, will be entering its third full year in 2022. The "primary" podcast features top five lists from various genres and subgenres. We have a wide range in our over 130 episodes. In 2020, we also added a weekly "supplemental" podcast, The Quick Cage, where co-host Frank Pellicone watched and reviewed every Nicolas Cage movie during an 23-month span. In 2022, a new supplemental podcast will begin weekly called The Spin Chagrin, where a ludicrous subgenre will be chosen randomly and Frank will have to watch and review the movie. This will be in addition to the main feed, where we will continue with extensive looks in top five lists.

The Spin Chagrin, a concept that finds Frank having to watch a movie he's never seen before based on the random spin of a wheel filled with off-the-wall genres, continues into its third year; the twist this year is that all the categories are quotables from Frank himself. In this episode, Frank's category was "Putting on the Rid.” For this category, he watched and reviewed three different movies: the 1988 cockroach-infested horror The Nest, the recent Prime action-comedy Jackpot! with Awkwafina and John Cena, and The Rock's 2010 movie Tooth Fairy.

This week, the 2 Guys continue their new, shorter journey through the career of Roger Corman who passed away earlier in 2024; this episode focuses more on the influences Corman had on Hollywood by giving actors and directors their earlier opportunities. Corman was an American film director, producer, and screenwriter renowned for his prolific work in low-budget filmmaking. Over six decades, he directed over 50 films and produced more than 400, pioneering genres like horror, science fiction, and exploitation. Corman's early work includes cult classics such as The Little Shop of Horrors (1960) and The Pit and the Pendulum (1961). He revolutionized the industry with his ability to produce films quickly and cheaply, often launching the careers of future Hollywood icons like Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, and actors such as Jack Nicholson and Robert De Niro. Working with American International Pictures (AIP), Corman's films were both commercially successful and socially relevant, earning him the title "Pope of Pop Cinema." He received an Honorary Academy Award in 2009, and his impact on cinema continues to be celebrated through documentaries and his enduring legacy in Hollywood.
